York's Scary Season: Halloween Roundup

It’s the best season of the year by far, and York is celebrating in fine style with a series of events and movies to celebrate Spooky Season. In no particular order, here are some good ones:


The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Yorkshire Museum 31 October, Museum Gardens York

Pull up your fishnet stockings and get your heels on (and yes, we’re taking to you all, ladies and gentlemen!) to enjoy the thrill of one of the world’s favourite rock ’n’ roll musicals! This Halloween, join us at the Yorkshire Museum for a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

There will be a Halloween themed buffet to gorge on and a cash bar to buy drinks before the film.

Ticket sales will close Tuesday 25 October 2016 at 6pm. Full payment is required upon booking and all tickets are non-refundable.


Ghostbusters at The Old Fire Station 28 October, Clifford Street York

Who ya gonna call? People with knowledge of the 80s of course!

Fleeting Quiz have teamed up with Gobbledigook to present a quiz and screening on the original Ghostbusters.

They’ll be running a very special quiz based on the classic 80s film followed by a screening in the Old Fire Station, the perfect location to enjoy some ghost-hunting joy.

Unders 18s must be accompanied by an adult, and note the film is a 12A so if you’re bringing young children check the BBFC guidelines.

£1.50 per person, maximum 5 people per team.

Fear not, there will be a bar!


The Genius of Tim Burton 28 October - 1 November, Bobo Lobo, Little Stonegate York

Beetlejuice… Edward Scissorhands… Jack Skellington… everyone has their favourite Tim Burton character: Which one will you choose?

Join us at BoBo Lobo Bar this coming Halloween weekend for a dark celebration of all things Burton as we tip our hat to the genius who has made many of our memories both as Children and grown-ups alike.

Half-Term Halloween 22 October 2016 to Sun 30 October, Castle Howard, York

Children! Brush up on your broom-making skills, stir up trouble in potion lessons and practise your scaring with trick or treat training. Rusticus workshops on daily at 12noon, 1.30pm and 2.30pm (last 40 minutes).

Broom Making: 22, 24, 26, 28 October Potion Lessons: 23, 25, 27 October Trick or Treat Training: 29 & 30 October

Tiptoe through the trees on our creepy critter trail and visit in your best trick or treat costume on 29 & 30 October for a Halloween treat (subject to availability).

An American Werewolf In London 31 October, City Screen York

Celebrate Halloween with one of the best horror-comedies ever made. An American Werewolf in London is an outrageously entertaining film, combining scares, laughs, gore, and the most famous - and yet to be beaten in terms of special effects - werewolf transformation scene to have ever graced the screen.

Join organisers Odd Horizon afterwards for a party at The Fossgate Social for werewolf-themed drinks and a big old nerd out about our favourite horrors.

This is Odd Horizon’s first attempt at screening a film, and we’re using ‘ourscreen’ which requires a certain amount of tickets to be sold in order to be confirmed, so get buying:
