Many of us will already be familiar with popular Cinema chain Everyman with their comfy seats, bars and beautifully restored buildings; we have previously had to travel to neighboring Leeds or Harrogate for the experience, but effective from August 2017, Everyman are taking over Reel on Blossom Street.
The refurb is likely to take a number of months and will honour the Grade II listed building’s original features, including keeping the Art Deco ‘ODEON" signage on the front. This will take place between September and December 2017 and once completed, the venue will house a bar, Spielburger restaurant and five screens with sofa seating.
Naveen Suri, managing director of Reel, told Screen Daily: “This is a unique opportunity for us to realise some value in our existing estate to be able to invest across other sites. York is an important city for cinema and the investment Everyman will bring to this building will be terrific for local customers whilst we will be able to accelerate refurbishments in the likes of Burnley and Chippenham.”
Let’s hope it’s ready in time for The Last Jedi.
