York designers Rebecca Carr and John Hollington Design are teaming up to launch an exciting new curated design market – Effects – to be held in York on the first weekend of December (2/3), at the Stained Glass Centre on Micklegate, in time for visitors and residents to indulge in some serious Christmas shopping.
Design enthusiasts and conscious consumers will be able to buy great Christmas cards, gifts and treats for the home, direct from the makers. Unique cards and beautiful personal gifts including stationery, homewares and jewellery will start from a few pounds. Visitors will find fresh items for the home such as lamp shades, lights, tableware, cushions, furniture and hand-built kitchens.
Effects will bring well respected and emerging design labels from the north to a wider audience. Designers have previously shown at leading shows including Design Junction, London Design Fair, Maison & Object and Clerkenwell Design Week.
Details of exhibiting designers and makers can be seen on their website here.
Independent design stores Snowhome from York and Dohm from Nottingham will have pop-up shops at the event selling independent designs with integrity and character sourced from smaller manufacturers and emerging designers.
Refreshments___ York-based micro patisserie Shutishuti will be selling refreshments at the event.
Opening hours • Launch night party, by invitation, Friday 1st Dec • 10:00-18:00 Saturday Dec 2 • 11:00-15:00 Sunday Dec 3

It is easily accessible on foot within a few minutes’ walk of bus stations, Park & Ride routes and York railway station, which has fast and frequent services to almost all of Britain’s major rail centres. The Centre is within ten minutes’ walk of several city centre car parks.
